10 – 11am every Friday in Hagley Park
Sharron Emslie our former group leader resigned in early March. Sharron led our walkers for 5 years and we would like to say big thank you on behalf of all members of the Society for her efforts throughout these years.
We would also like to congratulate Sharron for winning the Educator of the Year in September 2014. She received her award at the NZ HomeBase Childcare Association’s annual conference in Wellington.
She was nominated by the company she works for and the winner was decided by a panel of peers based on questions, letters from her boss and from a parent, and the learning stories she writes about each child she cares for.
Among other children, she had been able to help an autistic boy who was non verbal and struggled to eat very well. Within a few months he was able to count to ten, he was beginning to express his wants and his eating had improved greatly. The boy is now attending school and doing very well.
Well done! You will be missed by all members of the Nordic Walking Group.
Our new leader Frances Young is a qualified Nordic walking instructor who teaches groups through WEA. Frances is also a counsellor with a strong interest in the positive effect of exercise on mental wellbeing. Frances works for Relationships Aotearoa and has her own private practice.
New walkers welcome – please note you need a physio assessment prior to joining the group.
